Helena, thanks for all the excellent hours spent together. Best teacher I ever had and have looked forward to every monday and wednesday. In a few words, highly skilled teacher, nice surroundings, free coffee 😉 , entertainment and flexibility. Would never go anywhere else.

Was in Lagos for a short time this past May (anytime is too short a time 🙂 thought it would be fun to take some Portuguese lessons. I was right! Helena is the best!! Very knowledgeable, great teaching style, very friendly and her classroom easily accessible. Hoping to go back soon and take more lessons:-)

My other half and I have now taken about a dozen private lessons and have enjoyed every minute. Although we had a basic understanding of some of the grammar we found that our pronunciation was way off the mark. Helena has expertly guided us so that the locals now generally understand us even if we struggle to keep up with them, but with Helena’s continued assistance we will get there! We will be resuming our lessons when we are back in Lagos in September.

If you are thinking of taking tuition in Portuguese I can highly recommend this very professional lady teacher.

I have been trying to learn Portuguese for the last three years without success. I joined Helena recently – she has taken me back to basics and the mystery is unfolding. Her approach is very professional, inspiring, knowledgeable and friendly.
For me there is no other teacher of the Portuguese language – if you want to conquer your communication, pronunciation, grammar and all other aspects of Portuguese – this is the lady to teach you – I highly recommend her.
Competitive rates, very pleasant surroundings and ease of parking are among the added bonuses.

Helena successfully combines all aspects of teaching the Portuguese language within a structure specifically tailored to the aspirations and interests of her students. The very relaxed, friendly and fun atmosphere of her classes has helped to build up our confidence especially in spoken Portuguese. We are very much looking forward to resuming classes with Helena again this Autumn.

I had a very brief 2 hour course with Helena in May this year….(which I successfully won) I found her approach very professional & very helpful, fun & overall patient….
I have found the website to be very knowledgeable & easy to follow….The status’ on Facebook, & puzzles are also a great way to challenge & help you understand the language.
Keep up the great work Helena 😉

Helena is very patient and willing to adapt her style to the skill level of her students. I took several lessons with Helena on a recent trip to Portugal and will definitely return to her on future trips. I continue to use the learning materials she provided and I also subscribe to her blog.

I attended individual lessons of Portuguese 2-3 times/week in October and November 2013. I was at A2 level when I commenced them and in the end, made it to B1 level. I made a lot of progress thanks to Helena who was very patient to explain everything to me. She encouraged me to read magazines and even my first books in Portuguese which she had lent me herself! Her classes are highly recommended to both beginners and more advanced students. I’m looking forward to my classes this year as I want to improve my Portuguese even more. 🙂

The lessons were excellent. Very professional approah, good attention to detail and lots of sympathy for the learner in terms of pace and content. Would highly recommend. Oh – and good coffee!

Helena has a very good knowledge about structure, tenses and “when-to-use-what” of her own language and offers good training materials.
If possible i will book lessons whenever I am in Lagos.

Although we had some basic knowledge of the Portugese language, we are so happy that we found Helena because she is a very professional teacher who inspired us to spent more time learning this beautiful language.
Also we now understand more of some beautiful fado songs. Most of all she is a very pleasant person who makes every lesson something to look forward to.

I highly recommend Helena; she is intelligent, easy to work with, has a strong academic foundation, is passionate about teaching, and adapts well to the needs of the student. I am studying with Helena for three months this year and could not be happier. She has patiently worked with me to convert my Spanish into Portuguese and this has not been an easy task. Î highly recomend Helena for Portuguese classes.

When other people remarked how amazed they were I was speaking Portuguese after just a couple of months, I always gave the credit to Helena. Helena responded to my personal situation by placing more emphasis on conversational Portuguese, as that’s what I really needed to concentrate on. Instead of the staid, standard lessons of other language schools, Helena makes the lessons personal, engaging and motivating. It’s not often people say they look forward to studying, but Portuguse class days were my favourite days of the week! And, even though I am now living in Spain, people love the Portuguse accent I use when I speak Spanish! Thanks so much, Helena!

Thanks to Helena, a new world opened to me, as I am able to talk to my neighbours now. Helena designs the classes for each student to make sure that the different needs are met. I am really looking forward to my next lessons. I thought I never would be able to learn Portuguese, but learning with Helena is really fun.
Thank you…..and thank you that I can bring my dog Fizzy with me 🙂

I already speak Portuguese reasonably fluently but wanted some more challenges. Helena certainly provided this well. I had weekly conversation lessons with her for a number of months. All the lessons were tailor made to exactly what I needed. We had lengthy conversations on topics that I was interested in; she was able to explain any grammatical points that were unclear and she lent me a number of literature books to extend my reading. As a language teacher myself I thought her methods of delivery were excellent – she was engaging and very supportive at every stage. I can thoroughly recommend Helena.

I had one to one lessons with Helena earlier this year and can thoroughly recommend her to anyone looking to learn Portuguese. As well as her friendly nature she is very patient – which was much needed with my learning pace! She was always able to help over the internet if I had any issues with notes or homework as well. Lesson prices are very reasonable too. I hope to return to Lagos this winter to continue learning so will sign up for more tuition from Helena!

Having taught English as a foreign language for many years, I would not have been happy with anything other than a completely professional and effective teaching style. Helena delivers on every level. She is also a great source of cultural and behavioural know-how, which helps enormously in everyday life and makes that inter-cultural crossover so much easier. I enjoyed 3 hours per week of one-to-one tuition with Helena for 9 weeks in spring 2014. I was a complete beginner but after 3 weeks (and a struggle with pronunciation !) felt confident enough to use my newly-acquired language skills to (successfully) pre-book return train tickets to Lisbon at Lagos station. This was all down to Helena’s approach – lessons were great fun and motivating, and always well-prepared and tailored to my needs and pace of learning. I would recommend Helena without hesitation, and look forward to resuming lessons with her during my next stay in Portugal. Thank you so much, Helena !

I was looking for more than 1 year for a Portugese teacher in Lagos. My girlfriend recommend Helena.

I had from day 1 a click with her, which is very important for me! Helena was willing to make tailor made lessons for me! Excellent preparation, enjoyable and useful!

I always looking forward to my lessons with Helena as I want to improve my Portugese even more! I have to, I live in Portugal!

Vorig jaar ben ik inwoner geworden van Portugal en verblijf ik hier een groot deel van het jaar. Ik vind het belangrijk dat je de taal leert van het land waarin je zo gastvrij bent opgenomen.
Ik had het geluk om Helena te ontdekken als lerares en ben gestart met privelessen. Zij heeft mij geweldig geholpen en op een ontspannen manier de eerste beginselen van de Portugese taal geleerd.

I have been having lessons with Helena now for over a year and I have now managed to get a job in a Portuguese school. If it wasn’t for the excellent teaching of Helena I probably would not be working. Not only is Helena an excellent teacher she has become a very special friend. I really look forward to my lessons and being in her company.

Helena is a is everything you want to find in a language teacher: not only does she prepare every lesson conscienciously but also manages to keep you interested and in learning mode throughout the lesson; considering our 4 hour daily sessions that was quite an achievement in itself! Furthermore she is very flexible and quick in figuring out your learning needs & adapting to them.
I learnt a lot & enjoyed myself. Thanks Helena!

Helena is a great teacher, passionate about her work and always detailed in all her explanations. I took one on one lessons with her and every lesson was always excellently prepared and well structured. She adjusted special vocabulary according to my enquiries and laid the focus on what I needed for work to get me quickly into conversational Portuguese. She identified my special mistakes and kept on repeating and asking about them throughout the following lessons with a smile. She laid a lot of emphasis in details and always took the time to correct mistakes with explications and examples to make me understand the language and its structure quickly.
I enjoyed working with her in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere a lot and and was always looking forward to my lessons with her and I highly recommend her. Two of my collegues are already taking lessons with her and think she is an excellent language teacher as well, a third one is going to start when the touristic season is over.
Thank you for everything and all the help outside of the lessons Helena, and I wish you all the best for your family and the business:-)

I had an intensive 4 hours a day course of one week with Helena. It was highly productive, Helena is very flexible and adapts to the specific needs and level of the student. It was a joy to have lessons with her and I feel my portuguese took a big leap in a short period, covering a lot of ground, both in grammar, vocabulary, listening comprehension and active use of the language.
Lagos is a beautiful location to learn portuguese and Helena makes sure you get the maximum out of your time.

Helena is fantastic. We did lessons on Skype and it was excellent, like having the teacher in the same room. She is able to make words appear on the screen, share documents, etc. all very impressive! Helena is a superb teacher and I’ve been looking forward to my lessons every week. Although I chose English to communicate (I’m French), Helena is also fluent in French and is able to switch from one language to the other very easily. Thank you again.

Helena est fantastique. Nous avons fait des leçons avec Skype et c’était excellent, comme si le professeur était dans la salle. Elle peut faire apparaitre des mots sur votre écran, partager des documents, etc. impressionant ! Helena est un professeur super et il m’a tardé de faire les leçons toutes les semaines. Bien que j’ais choisi de communiquer en anglais (je suis française), Helena parle aussi le français couramment et peut passer d’une langue à l’autre très facilement. Merci encore.

I am taking your class via the internet on youtube. I love the way you teach. I have had several years of Spanish and that is both good and trips me up some but I shall continue each day. Perhaps my wife Karen and I could take some classes in Logos soon! Thank you for providing this wonderful class on-line.
